Dear Taylor Swifts of the world and others alike,
You are just as bad as your white male counterparts. You can be just as racist and sexist as they can be. I do not care how bad you want to be wear tank tops to school ( have you ever thought about how black men and women can’t dress a certain way without being called rachet and thugs?) and how your eyeliner could kill men (honestly your eyeliner sucks). I do not care about how shamed Taylor Swift gets whenever her lanky behind gets a new boyfriend. You can go ahead and stop telling me how much of a feminist icon Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Emma Watson, and (insert another white woman's name here) is because to be honest they’re already repeating points that were made by people of color in the past and were dehumanized for.

Answer me this: why is it when Miley Cyrus gets on stage and decides to wear barely anything and twerk on, she’s a role model, but when Beyonce does it she’s the worst role model on the planet? Or how about when Kylie Jenner wears dreads she’s starting a trend but when Zendaya wears dreads she looks as if she smells like weed? Let’s talk about how you even try to pretend that what Kylie is doing is not cultural appropriation. White people can’t have dreads, their hair isn’t capable of having them. What they really have is mates, like the things dogs get when they go ungroomed for a long period of time. Or the binids that are used for “fashion” when actually they're supposed to be used for religious and spiritual uses for indian people. You seem to have forgotten that eurocentric beauty standard, which has been shoved down the throats of the entire population, sees white women as goddesses and that cultural pieces look good on white women only.
You are the first to always complain about the lack of realistic female representation in the media, but when minorities complain that they’re always stereotyped you want to jump in claiming they should be happy and stop asking for too much. Is it really too much to ask to be portrayed as a human being and not some made up trope?
Here’s some food for thought. Have you ever thought that all the world's issues don’t revolve around you and that you are not exempt from making mistakes because you’re a woman? When you step on the backs for some ungodly reason you are excused because you’ve done this and you’ve done that. I do not care about how Taylor Swift wrote a song for the gays or how much charity she does when she deliberately turned Nicki Minaj’s speech about racism against black women into a night about how an angry black woman came after an innocent white girl. Taylor is a 25 year old woman who knows when she should and should stay out of a conversation she does not understand.
Unfortunately, since you’re white you have the power to get people to actually listen to you. So, instead of drowning out the movements of the oppressed how about you try to be a good ally and support. That would be too much for you, wouldn’t it? To ask you to take time out of your day to care about a movement that isn’t solely about you. Let’s not forget that the feminist movement got its start from the abolition movement and that without black women the first wave would have completely failed. You want to ignore racism as a whole until someone calls you out for it, then you want to claim that it’s “reverse racism” because “not all white people”. Speaking of reverse racism, delete the thought of that ever existing. Racism is about a system of oppression and last time I checked whites had all the power thus can not experience racism. I don’t care about how you went to an all black school Sally, and how the black kids picked on you. Maybe it’s because you’re annoying or maybe they were shitty kids, but that is no way comparable to what racism actually is.
Now do not pretend that you are not going around on halloween dressed as native americans (You’re not indian because way back down the line someone raped a native american), mexicans (it’s not funny to dehumanize a culture), or nicki minaj with blackface(do I have to explain?). I know you are and I see you. I also see you preaching about girls not being able to wear what they want, but ignore the fact that Trayvon Martin’s murder was excused because he looked suspicious wearing a hoodie on a cold night. You get upset about people making fun of you for drinking starbucks and wearing ugg boots, but never want to speak about the respectability politics that keep people of color down.
You don’t get to determine what should offend who and how those who are offended should react. I would respect you all if you actually put in effort not to show you actually care about the equality of all people. If you didn’t just state your opinion and being dismissive of those who suffer from oppressions’ experiences. Your word is not final and sure as hell is not law. Your white privilege has given you enough already. By the way just letting you know, you dating a person of color does not give you the right to say the n-word. Nice try.
You don’t get to define what's racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, classist, sexist, or any combination of them. Just because it doesn’t affect you personally doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. I’m able to feed myself everyday, but that doesn’t mean that world hunger isn’t a problem. In actuality, you are the problem for the fact that you refuse to acknowledge the problems at hand. Don’t call yourself a feminist unless you are in it for everyone and not just for your right not to get judge for the obscene amount of boyfriends you have in a year. Call me when you are out there spreading the word #blacklivesmatter. Call me when you refuse to let hollywood whitewash movies. Call me when you care about the deaths of trans people. Call me when you stop believing terrorist is a synonym for muslim. Call me when you give a damn.
Love,
